Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Presents Scholarships

CHAPEL HILL, NC – The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has awarded $5,500 in scholarships to eight (8) graduating seniors from high schools in Orange and Chatham counties.  A reception for the students and their families/friends was held on May 14th and presentations to the students were made at each school’s respective Awards and Honors Day.  The recipients of the $750.00 scholarship awards are Jada Young (Carrboro High), Kristian Richardson (East Chapel Hill High), Victoria Smith (Chapel Hill High) and Jocelyn Rives (Chatham Central).  Recipients receiving $500 awards are Diamond McPhatter (Carrboro High), Aliyah Smith (Orange High) and Candyce Smith (Cedar Ridge High).  Amber Cotton-Geer (Jordan Matthews High) received an award of $1,000 for scholastic achievement and the sorority’s “Fortitude Award.”   Since the chapter’s chartering in 1979, more than $150,000 has been provided in scholarship aid to 222 graduating students in all of the schools in the service area of Chatham and Orange County.
