Law’s Local Predictions 9/10

Predictions for the weekend of 9/10

East Carolina (1-0) vs. North Carolina State (1-0)

I will be in Greenville on Saturday. Both teams head in to the game looking very solid. I am eager to see the match-up between ECU’s offensive line vs. NCSU’s deep rotation of defensive linemen. I believe this game comes down to the more disciplined team in the end.

ECU 33-20

North Carolina Central (0-1) @ Western Michigan (1-0)

NC Central looks to bounce back from a loss last week to Duke on the road versus a Western Michigan team that just upset a tough Northwestern team last week. This will be an uphill battle for the Eagles.

WMU 48-10

Duke (1-0) vs. Wake Forest (0-1)

The first conference game for both teams. Expect both teams to battle blow-for-blow, but Duke will pull away late on the legs of running back Jela Duncan.

Duke 26-20

UNC (0-1) @ Illinois (1-0)

North Carolina is coming off of a tough defeat to Georgia in Atlanta last week. The Tar Heels made some crucial mental mistakes that led to their demise. I expect the Larry Fedora led team to bounce back and learn from their mistakes.

UNC 34-23

Shaw (0-1) @ Wingate (1-0)

Could first game jitters been the cause of the seven fumbles lost by the Shaw Bears? I expect Shaw to bounce back on the road, but they will come up short.

Wingate 38-13

St. Augustine’s (0-1) vs. Carson-Newman (0-1)

A rough showing in Greensboro to start the season for St. Aug. The Falcons host Carson-Newman for their first home game of the season.

Carson-Newman 38-6

Game to Watch

#17 Tennessee (1-0) vs. Virginia Tech (1-0) – 8pm EST ABC

Tennessee is coming off of an upset scare by Appalachain State last week. Virginia Tech is a double-digit underdog coming in to the game. The Hokies are 7-4 in their last 11 games in that category. Expect this game to come down to the wire with the Hokies having a great chance for an upset.
