The first year, over 2,500 families were fed, from Detroit, Atlanta, Colorado Springs, Charlotte and elsewhere. In 2015, some 5,000 families were fed through generous donations made to Beatty’s non-profit, Purposed Professionals (formerly known as Professional Divas).

Each of the affiliates involved with the Thanksgiving Blessings select their own charity to supply the food that they collect to donate to. “Everyone reports back to me about how many families have been fed, and we just add the totals. We plan to bless as many people as possible”.  Tax deductible donations can be made to http://bit.ly/givethanks16.

Food insecurity is a very real problem for senior citizens. In 2015, 2.9 million households with seniors age 65 and older experienced food insecurity.

Food insecure seniors are at risk for chronic health conditions:

• 60 percent are more likely to experience depression
• 53 percent are more likely to report a heart attack
• The number of food insecure seniors is projected to increase by 50% when the youngest of the Baby Boom Generation reaches age 60 in 2025.

“I absolutely love our senior citizens. The residents here at J.J. Henderson Towers are just so special, and I’m happy that the director here welcomed
