DURHAM, NC – La’Ticia Nicole Beatty will host her 4th Thanksgiving Blessings event, on Thursday, November 17, 2016, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm EST. The Durham, NC event will take place at the senior citizens’ residential dwelling known as JJ Henderson Towers.
“Last year we focused our Durham effort there, and wanted to return. Our senior citizens often don’t have regular visitors, and we just want to make them feel extra special”, says Beatty.
The Thanksgiving Blessings event started off as an idea to feed 1,000 people, with a little help from Beatty’s friends from several states. The first year, over 2,500 families were fe

Each of the affiliates involved with the Thanksgiving Blessings select their own charity to supply the food that they collect to donate to. “Everyone reports back to me about how many families have been fed, and we just add the totals. We plan to bless as many people as possible”. Tax deductible donations can be made to http://bit.ly/givethanks16.
Food insecurity is a very real problem for senior citizens. In 2015, 2.9 million households with seniors age 65 and older experienced food insecurity.
Food insecure seniors are at risk for chronic health conditions:
• 60 percent are more likely to experience depression
• 53 percent are more likely to report a heart attack
• The number of food insecure seniors is projected to increase by 50% when the youngest of the Baby Boom Generation reaches age 60 in 2025.
“I absolutely love our senior citizens. The residents here at J.J. Henderson Towers are just so special, and I’m happy that the director here welcomed
us to return for our Thanksgiving Blessings event. I don’t want any of our seniors to feel as though they have to choose medicine over food,” states Beatty.
If the community would like to assist in passing out food, or have some contributions they would like to bring to the JJ Henderson Towers, they can do so Thursday, November 17th from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, 807 South Duke Street in Durham.
