Art of Cool Fest VIP guests will partake in exclusive perks throughout the last weekend of April. This includes access to the VIP Jazz Brunch on Sunday, April 30th featuring performances by Kindred the Family Soul and Frank McComb.

Born out of the desire to expand the audience for Jazz music, the 4th Annual Art of Cool Festival (AOCFEST) makes its return to Downtown Durham April 28-30, 2017.  This grassroots festival celebrates the diversity of Black American music by presenting music that spans genres but all rooted in and inspired by the art of Jazz.

Attendees at the 2017 AOCFEST will be delighted by legendary artists such as festival headliners George Clinton, Rakim, and Common; as well as receive an introduction to incredible new stars both local and of international acclaim.

With the All-Access VIP Pass, ticket holders are able to enjoy the full festival experience. Expertly crafted by Joye Speight of Virtue Events, VIP guests will partake in exclusive perks throughout the weekend. This includes two-day access to all Club Pass venues, no waiting in line, reserved seating at each headliner performance, exclusive VIP hospitality lounge access at the Carolina Theatre, access to premium reserved seating at the DPAC headliner performance for Common on Saturday, April 29th; as well as access to the VIP Jazz Brunch on Sunday, April 30th featuring performances by Kindred the Family Soul and Frank McComb.

Meet Kindred The Family Soul

Kindred The Family Soul consists of husband and wife duo Aja Graydon and Fatin Dantzler. Working together since 1997 & married since 1998, the couple has developed an unmistakably strong creative chemistry.  Their 2003 debut album Surrender to Love produced two top 10 hits “Far Away” and “Stars” earning both a Soul Train Award and a BET Award nomination. Kindred’s music has become the voice for families and couples, presenting a relatable and truly beautiful image of “Black Love”. In 2016 the couple released their 6th studio album titled Legacy of Love and as the title suggests their love is front and center. This duo is sure to deliver an electrifying performance which will be the perfect end to an unforgettable weekend!

Phyllis Coley

Phyllis D. Coley is CEO/Publisher of Spectacular Magazine and Host of Spectacular Magazine Radio Show.

With a B.A. in English from NCCU, the Durham native began her professional career as Promotions/Marketing Director for New York City’s WKTU-FM. While at the radio station, Coley discovered the rap group Kid ‘n Play and managed them for five years, guiding their music and movie careers to success. Moving back to Durham, Coley produced a nationally syndicated television show, The Electric Factory, while working as News Director for FOXY 107/104. In April 2002, recognizing a void in highlighting the achievements of African Americans, she started her own business publishing ACE Magazine. Coley launched Spectacular Magazine in November 2004. Recognizing the lack of pertinent and truthful information, Coley began Spectacular Magazine Radio Show in March 2009. Coley is the organizer of Durham’s Annual MLK/Black History Month Parade and the Annual North Carolina Juneteenth Celebration. She currently serves on Central Children’s Home Board of Directors, Raleigh Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Advisors, as Immediate Past Secretary of the Durham Rotary Club Board of Directors and is one of the founding members of the Triangle United Way’s African American Leadership Initiative.
