Angela Bassett will be back on the small screen soon! According to The Hollywood Reporter the Golden Globe winner is set to executive produce and be the lead in the upcoming Ryan Murphy drama 911. The procedural is based on 911 operators and the calls that come through the emergency telephone number. No word on when exactly the 13-episode series will debut on FOX. Nas + Fashion

Nas is capitalizing on the Nineties nostalgia wave. The rapper and entrepreneur is teaming with The Thread Shop, Sony Music’s licensing and merchandising creative agency, to produce an apparel and accessories collection. This is a homecoming of sorts for Nas, who is currently under Mass Appeal Records but signed his first deal in 1992 with Columbia, which is a subsidiary of Sony. In 2013 Nas launched Hstry, an apparel line he created with Grungy Gentleman. In 2014 he relaunched it as a stand-alone brand and last year he worked with Sony Pictures Consumer Marketing on a Hstry fashion collection to coincide with the film studio’s remake of “Ghostbusters.” The Thread Shop facilitated the build out for the A Tribe Called Quest pop-up shop last year and produced the merchandise.

Currently in production, Warner has dated the feature for a Sept. 28, 2018 release.

Robin Thede + Chris Rock = BET New Late-Night Show

For years, Robin Thede has been a force in comedy.  And now she will helm her own show, The Rundown with Robin Thede on BET in the late night slot. Thede has written for a number of shows and is one of the main reasons why BET’s House Husbands of Hollywood and Comedy Central’s Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore were so funny. (She’s also the first black woman in American history to be a head writer for a late-night talk show.) In her new role, Thede is starring and co-producing the 24-episode The Rundown with Chris Rock, whom she first met while working as a writer for Rock when he hosted the 2014 BET Awards. The show launches in the fall and will feature her take on politics, news and pop culture.

BET is making some major moves to follow up the monumental success of their New Edition Story three-part movie that aired last year. On top of signing on for a Nas biopic, the television network has reportedly given the green light to a new limited series called Death Row Chronicles, which covers the story of the controversial record label. The documentary series will be based around the rise and fall of the powerhouse label, which was co-founded by Suge Knight in 1991, and is slated to have six hour-long episodes. The series will be a “part true-crime murder mystery and part hip-hop drama,” according to Billboard. The outlet reports that production for the series will start this spring, with hopes that BET will air it summer of 2018 as a targeted release date.
