Roxboro, NC – The Piedmont Community College (PCC) Board of Trustees named Dr. Pamela Gibson Senegal as its fifth President and the first woman to lead the College. Dr. Senegal will begin her Presidency on July 1, contingent upon her final approval by the State Board of Community Colleges on June 26.
The Trustees entered this presidential search with a determination to find a visible leader who is accessible to all constituents within the College and greater communities, while also demonstrating collaborative leadership skills. It was also the Board’s interest to find a candidate who will continue to build and implement effective plans that include actively supporting the development of partnerships between the College, business and industry, other educational organizations, cultural entities, and civic organizations throughout our service area.
Dr. Senegal’s employment history demonstrates her commitment and ability to fill these needs.
Most recently the vice president of Economic and Community Development at Central Carolina Community College (CCCC), Dr. Senegal brings more than 20 years of higher education leadership, business experience, and community service to her new role at Piedmont Community College.
Prior to CCCC, she served as dean of Career and Technical Programs and Tech Prep coordinator at Durham Technical Community College (DTCC). During her time at DTCC, she was also Dean of Corporate Education, Assistant to the President for Hispanic Community Outreach, and enjoyed teaching ACA 122 for many years.
Dr. Senegal’s academic career also includes serving as Central Piedmont Community College’s (CPCC) Executive Director for the Services Corporation, a 501 C 3 dedicated to funding entrepreneurial ideas of faculty and staff. At CPCC, she also held positions as associate dean and computer training director.
Before becoming a community college professional, she worked as the information technology training manager at Glenayre and change management analyst at Anderson Consulting.
Bringing extensive community involvement to her position, Senegal currently serves on the Sanford Chamber of Commerce Board, the Triangle Community Foundation board, and The Foreign Trade Zone #93 Board. She has previously served on the boards of the Ronald McDonald House of Durham, the Dispute Settlement Center of Carrboro, and Professional Women’s Network chair of the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce.
Senegal holds undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Spanish, a master’s in Public Administration and a doctorate in Adult and Community College Education, all from N.C. State University. She also completed a Training and Development certificate from UNC-Charlotte and the American Society for Training and Development.
She has served as a Cub Scout leader for her three sons, two of whom are Eagle Scouts. Senegal is also active in her church.

The endeavor was a true testament to the value of synergy, and the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. This selection was very much a collective effort and I’m grateful for the support of community members from the College’s two service areas,” he added.
Dr. Senegal’s selection follows a rigorous search process which featured significant input from community members. The Presidential Search Committee, comprised of six PCC Board of Trustee members, four PCC employees, and 17 community leaders from Person and Caswell counties, reviewed 25 applications, tapering the number to six. The final candidates visited the College’s Person County Campus in Roxboro for interviews with the College’s full Board of Trustees and for a “meet and greet” session with members of PCC’s faculty and staff.
