Serena Williams Just Had A Baby Girl!
Congrats are in order for tennis legend Serena Williams and her fiance Alexis Ohanian. The power couple recently welcomed their first child together, a bouncing 6 lb. 13 oz. baby girl. The irony surrounding the baby’s delivery is a match made in tennis heaven. Ohanian revealed that Serena, who was pregnant when she won the Australian open, was convinced that her success on the tennis court confirmed that she was carrying a baby girl. To put the icing on the cake, the new baby’s birth was announced by her aunt, Venus Williams moments before she hit the court at the U.S. Open.
Tamar Braxton Publicly Apologizes To Tiny
Tamar Braxton has extended an olive branch to Tiny and her estranged husband T.I. Ever since she left The Real, Tamar has been at odds with her good girlfriend Tiny. The pair have traded jabs and Tiny‘s mama even jumped into the beef at one point. The tension has all become too much for Tamar, so she reached out to her bestie on Instagram to make things right in their relationship. She misses them. And Tamar wants to see the whole family back together. Tiny and T.I. have expressed their intention to get a divorce–they even ended their family reality show by officially breaking up–but Tamar is holding out hope that they can get back together and save their marriage. Tamar finally got to her apology, writing directly to Tiny, “With that all being said @majorgirl I’m sorry for my part in the hurt and want to have my best friend AND her family Including all of our kids and TIP all back together again.”
Detroit Renames Street After ‘The Queen Of Soul’ Aretha Franklin
Aretha Franklin’s hometown of Detroit has named a street after her. A section of Madison Street, between Brush and Witherell, was named Aretha Franklin Way for The Queen of Soul in August. The area is at the heart of a performing arts district that includes the Detroit Opera House. Franklin told a crowd gathered at the Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts that she knew she would “get weepy” by the honor. The 75-year-old Franklin thanked the Detroit City Council for the honor, which she called magnificent. She went on to recall her youthful days skating at the Arcadia Ballroom and singing at the Flame Show Bar. The street-naming launched four days of events for the inaugural Detroit Music Weekend, designed to showcase the city’s artists.
Starz Developing Drama Series On Life Of Mariah Carey
Deadline is reporting that cable network Starz currently has a drama series based on the true-life experiences of Mariah Carey in development. The untitled fictional scripted drama series is set in 1986 New York City and chronicles the rise of an ambitious bi-racial 16-year-old girl, an aspiring singer-songwriter who survived a difficult childhood to become the biggest selling female music artist of all time. After starting off 2017 on a terrible note (literally) due to her fiasco of a performance on New Year’s Eve, Mariah Carey has been keeping a low profile. There is no denying that Mariah Carey’s rise to superstardom is equally inspiring and fascinating, which is why turning her life story into a TV series doesn’t seem that far-fetched.
Rihanna Launches ‘The Dollar Campaign’ To Support Global Education
Rihanna has launched a new fundraising initiative called “The Dollar Campaign,” which will allow fans to donate money via her Clara Lionel Foundation website. Every dollar given will not only go toward the Clara Lionel Foundation’s global education, health, and emergency response programs but will also provide a chance to win a trip to her Diamond Ball in New York City on September 14. “I want to challenge each of you to make a commitment to help one person, one organization, one situation that touches your heart,” Rihanna stated. “My grandmother always used to say if you have a dollar there’s plenty to share.” The deadline for donations is Sept. 5.
