Alicia J. Turner To Release New Children’s Book Pinky Promise – Breaking The Code Of Silence

Durham, NC – Saturday, November 4, 2017 author Alicia J. Turner will  release her newest publication Pinky Promise – Breaking the Code of Silence, a children’s picture book about one of the most sensitive topics; one that often goes without thorough discussion, Child Sexual Abuse.

Alicia J. TurnerThe release of the Pinky Promise book could not be more-timely, considering the most recent allegations of sexual assault in the news, and the countless reported and unreported victims of child sexual abuse. The overwhelming majority of sexually abused children don’t immediately, if ever, disclose the abuse and as a result can often grow into more serious issues.

The Pinky Promise book teaches awareness, creates open space for dialogue, strategies to encourage children to report their fears and concerns, and gives responsible adults the tools they need to foster nurturing connections. The Pinky Promise book is designed to assist responsible adults with starting the conversation with a child in a way that encourages his or her comfort with disclosing secrets. Most importantly this book recognizes the responsible adult’s willingness and ability to protect.

What is a Pinky Promise?

Pinky Promise is a promise between a child and a responsible adult. The child promises to tell the responsible adult anything that makes them uncomfortable, and the responsible adult promises to listen, believe, and protect. The child is invited to engage in this sensitive topic through a child friendly agreement (certificate of promise – included in the book), beginning with a primary focus on the responsible adult’s willingness to listen, believe and protect.

Countless children fall victim to sexual abuse, and the circle of care around them is what matters the most. The Pinky Promise book serves as a fun way to establish a stronger bond between responsible adult and child, characterized by love and trust.
