Triangle Corporations, Businesses & Professionals Foster Alliance


Durham, NCCorporations, businesses, and business professionals from the Triangle and surrounding areas are coming together January 25th to foster an alliance that will give access, provide exposure and present opportunities to youth in urban and underprivileged areas.  

Helping All People Excel or HAPE (pronounced happy) will host the HAPE Launch and Networking event on Thursday January 25th at 6:30 pm in the Student Union on the campus of North Carolina Central University. The evening will conclude with a Chinese Auction, a combination of a raffle and an auction, as a kick-off to HAPE’s fundraising initiatives for 2018.

HAPE is a local nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase the student persistence (percentage) rate of youth in urban and underprivileged areas from high school to college; then college to a successful career through access and exposure to various career fields.  HAPE exposes urban and underprivileged youth to numerous career choices and provides a pathway to success as means of motivating them to look beyond their current circumstances and see the limitless possibilities before them. 

Helping All People Excel (HAPE) believes you can only go as far as you can see…and because of that we want all students to have the opportunity to see various career options.

HAPE  provides high school and college students with exposure and opportunities in a various career paths through the following:

  • Opportunity Fair – Annual career fair that showcases opportunities being offered by various businesses and corporations. These opportunities are focused on high school and first year college students and include: scholarships, internships, mentoring, shadowing opportunities and more.
  • Featuring various scholarship and internship opportunities on our website.
  • Booking local business professionals to speak at local high schools, colleges and universities.

Phyllis Coley
Phyllis D. Coley is CEO/Publisher of Spectacular Magazine and Host of Spectacular Magazine Radio Show. With a B.A. in English from NCCU, the Durham native began her professional career as Promotions/Marketing Director for New York City’s WKTU-FM. While at the radio station, Coley discovered the rap group Kid ‘n Play and managed them for five years, guiding their music and movie careers to success. Moving back to Durham, Coley produced a nationally syndicated television show, The Electric Factory, while working as News Director for FOXY 107/104. In April 2002, recognizing a void in highlighting the achievements of African Americans, she started her own business publishing ACE Magazine. Coley launched Spectacular Magazine in November 2004. Recognizing the lack of pertinent and truthful information, Coley began Spectacular Magazine Radio Show in March 2009. Coley is the organizer of Durham's Annual MLK/Black History Month Parade and the Annual North Carolina Juneteenth Celebration. She currently serves on Central Children’s Home Board of Directors, Raleigh Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Advisors, as Immediate Past Secretary of the Durham Rotary Club Board of Directors and is one of the founding members of the Triangle United Way’s African American Leadership Initiative.
