Nominations Accepted Now! Spectacular Magazine 2018 Man Of The Year

Spectacular Magazine is now accepting nominations for the Spectacular Magazine 2018 Man of the Year Awards. Please take the time to nominate a friend, colleague, client, employee, church member, significant other, etc. (21+) who deserves to be celebrated!

Nomination Period: June 4 – June 17

Semi-Finalists Announced: June 24 on Spectacular Magazine Radio Show (7:30 am on Foxy 107/104)

On-line Voting Period: July 8 – July 28

Black-tie Awards Gala: August 12; Reception: 2 pm; Gala: 3 pm (location: TBA)

The categories and the criteria are:

~ Lifetime Achievement – man who has made outstanding and significant contributions to the African-American community throughout his lifetime; he must have demonstrated dedication, leadership and commitment to the advancement, promotion and development of the cultural, educational, social, economic, political welfare and/or in any other areas that impact the lives of people in the African-American community; must be of African or African-American heritage.

~ Activism – man must have made substantial and long-term contributions in furtherance of civil rights, civil liberties, and/or human rights; led the development of contemporary measures to fight discrimination and prejudice and the effects of past discrimination; and/or fostered positive intergroup relations among persons of different races, ages, ethnic origin, gender, religious backgrounds, or physical and mental abilities; man of any race, color or creed who serves the African-American community is eligible.

~ Business & Economic Development – man must have made significant contributions to the African-American community in the area of economic development; have the African-American community as a target population for his services or specific project; man of any race, color or creed who serves the African-American community is eligible.

~ Community Service – recipient should have volunteered his time for one or more activities that were to the immediate benefit of the African American community; must be of African or African-American heritage.

~ Education – man who is driven by the need to help students succeed and has made significant gains toward eliminating the significant gap between the achievement levels of blacks and non-black students; man of any race, color or creed who serves the African-American community is eligible.

~Entrepreneurship – man must be the owner, founder or controlling shareholder of their company and principally responsible for its operation; must have been in business for at least the past twelve consecutive months, and the business must be a for-profit business; must be of African or African-American heritage.

~ Health & Fitness – man who dedicated his career toward the welfare and advancement of minority health and the elimination of health disparities; has taken action to further the goals of improving the health status of all racial and ethnic minority Americans; or man who is contributing in various ways to the advancement and/or promotion of physical activity, fitness, sports, and/or nutrition; must be of African or African-American heritage.

~ Mentor – man who is committed to making a significant positive impact on his mentees’ education and career by supporting, encouraging and promoting intellectual growth, professional and personal development, and being a positive role model; man of any race, color or creed who serves the African-American community is eligible. 

~ Nonprofit Management – man that demonstrate the highest level of integrity and dedication to working in the nonprofit sector; effective in building organizational and individual leadership; ability to instill passion in themselves & the people with whom they work; aware of their role in and impact of their organization on the African American community; brings innovative ideas forward and to fruition; must be of African or African-American heritage.
