Lady Wolfpack Defeats Indiana 84-70
Raleigh, NC – The North Carolina State Wolfpack dominated the Indiana University Hoosiers women’s basketball team as part of the ACC/Big Ten Conference Challenge onThursday night in Reynolds Coliseum. The Lady Wolfpack prevailed with a score of 84-70 to improve to 6-2 on the season. It was the fourth overall meeting between the two programs, with NC State leading the series 3-0. The Wolfpack, led by fourth year coach Wes Moore trailed for the first four and a half minutes of the game before a 6-0 run gave them the lead and they never looked back.
Led by senior guard Dominique Wilson with 23 points, the Pack created a 19 point lead in the 3rd quarter. With 3:23 remaining in the 3rd, NC State went ice cold from the floor, starting a scoreless drought that would last six minutes into the 4th. Indiana’s Tyra Buss took advantage of the stumbling Pack and put up 10 points by herself, bringing the Hoosiers to within four with 5:29 left in the game. Buss would foul out in the 4th quarter, but not before dealing major damage to the Pack’s defensive strategy by scoring more than half of UI’s points with a whopping 38.
It was junior forward Chelsea Nelson, however, who ignited the fire for the Lady Wolfpack, making three jumpers in a row to lead the Hoosiers by eight with 3:45 to play. As Indiana became desperate and began to foul, the Wolfpack remained strong, draining 15 straight free throws to keep them in the lead. The final buzzer had three Wolfpack players in the double digit scoring column. Wilson leading with 23, Nelson with 19 points and 12 rebounds and senior Miah Spencer with 17 points.
NC State will begin a three game homestretch Sunday as they take on the 5-3 North Florida Ospreys December 4 at 2pm.
