George Clinton Headlines AOC; Ticket Payment Plan Offered
Headlining the 4th Annual Art of Cool Festival will be music legend George Clinton of Parliament Funkadelic. Known as the Godfather of Funk, Clinton revolutionized R&B during the 1970s by twisting soul music into his own brand of funk, affectionately called “Pfunk.”
The 4th Annual Art of Cool Festival (AOCFEST) takes place April 28-30, 2017 in Durham, NC. AOCFEST seeks to remix the Black American Music Festival experience by featuring forward thinking jazz, alternative soul, and mature hip hop as part of the overall mission to expand the audience of jazz as well as innovative thought. The 2017 AOCFEST was curated with very diverse slate of artists to capture the sound and feel that a variety of festival goers will enjoy.
Inspired by Motown‘s assembly line of sound, George Clinton gradually put together a collective of over 50 musicians and recorded the ensemble during the ’70s both as Parliament and Funkadelic. While Funkadelic pursued band-format psychedelic rock, Parliament engaged in a funk free-for-all, blending influences from the godfathers (James Brown and Sly Stone) with freaky costumes and themes inspired by ’60s acid culture and science fiction.
Parliament Funkadelic achieved great success with smash hits like “Flash Light”, “Aqua Boogie”, and “One Nation Under a Groove”. Winners of a Grammy, a Dove (gospel), and an MTV video music award, Clinton’s Parliament/Funkadelic was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
