Mike D’s BBQ Wins Big At Kinston’s BBQ Festival On The Neuse
Kinston, NC – Mike D’s BBQ of Durham, NC won two awards the weekend of May 5th – 6th at the BBQ Festival on the Neuse. The award-winning festival in downtown Kinston is the largest whole hog bbq cook-off in the nation.
Sponsored by the Lenior County Chamber of Commerce, the festival features delicious bbq, arts and crafts, entertainment, vendors, wine garden, and children’s activities. There are food competitions including ones for Southern Sides and Sauce Boss. To take home “Sauce Boss” bragging rights, competitors must go through two levels of judging.
First, a distinguished panel of judges scores the sauces. Then festival attendees have an opportunity to sample the sauces along with the sides and vote for the “people’s choice” award. Mike D’s Spicy BBQ Sauce won the 2017 People’s Choice award for the Professional Division and finished 2nd from the judges!
Michael De Los Santos, founder of the business, said, “Coming off of 120% growth in year three, this is a big boost to our 4th year in business. Hopefully, it can serve as a catalyst for growing our retail partners in the state!”
