Former NCCU QB Malcolm Bell Signs With Winnipeg Blue Bombers
Winnipeg, CA – Former NCCU quarterback Malcolm Bell has signed with the Winnipeg (Canada) Blue Bombers. It was announced May 16 along with the signing of another International quarterback Austin Apodaca and International defensive back Chance Casey.
Bell (6-1, 190, North Carolina Central, March 16, 1994 in Richmond, VA) finished his career at North Carolina Central with a record of 24-10, including 9-3 in his senior season of 2016. Bell started 24 consecutive games at quarterback to cap his college career and was among NCCU career leaders after finishing second in passing with 6,340 yards and second in total offense with 7,844 yards. Bell accounted for 62 total touchdowns – 20 rushing and 42 passing.
Bell was voted All-MEAC First Team as top quarterback in the league. He topped the MEAC with an average of 250.5 yards of total offense per game,
was second in in the conference with 202.6 passing yards per game, and was the league’s sixth-leading rusher with 575 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. Bell collected a career record as the Eagles’ starting quarterback (9-3 in 2016, 8-3 in 2015, 6-3 in 2014, 1-1 in 2013) with three consecutive conference championships.
At the conclusion of the regular season, Bell was voted as the top quarterback in the conference with a selection to the All-MEAC First Team, and was chosen as a Finalist for the Black College Football Player of the Year Award.
Bell graduated from NCCU on Dec. 10 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, which his back-up plan was to work in federal law enforcement.
