Former MSNBC Anchor Melissa Harris-Perry Guest Speaker at Saint Ambrose Episcopal Church Benefit Gala

Raleigh, NC – Dr. Melissa Harris-Perry will be the featured speaker at a benefit Gala for Saint Ambrose Episcopal Church. The event takes place at the Marriott City Center in Raleigh on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 6 pm. Harris-Perry is acclaimed Wake Forest University professor, founding director of the Anna Julia Cooper Center, editor-at-large of Elle.com and former MSNBC host.

Founded in 1968 as a worshiping community in conjunction with Saint Augustine’s University. Saint Ambrose has a historically African American congregation and rich heritage of outreach ministries. The September 15th benefit gala is the flagship event celebrating the church’s 150th anniversary.

Father Jemonde Taylor, Rector of Saint Ambrose truly feels Dr. Harris Perry is the perfect speaker for this occasion. “We’re blessed to have Dr. Harris-Perry speak at our benefit gala and celebrate Saint Ambrose’s 150 years of impact with us. Her work and activism align with our contributions to the local community. Saint Ambrose not only focuses on the spiritual health of our community. The 150th anniversary benefit gala will feature Dr. Harris-Perry as the speaker, food, music, special performances, and a dance party.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Saint Ambrose’s educational, musical, social justice and other outreach ministries.

Saint Ambrose began as the worshiping community associated with Saint Augustine’s University on Tuesday, February 11, 1868. It became the first historically African American mission to become a parish in the 1950s.  Throughout the years, Saint Ambrose has impacted the community through education reform, liturgy and worship.
