Late Night With Roy Marks the Return of Carolina Basketball
Chapel Hill, NC – The 16th annual University of North Carolina Tar Heel Basketball ceremonial showcase was packed with activities ranging from a lip reading contest, a 3 point contest and even a $23,400 check donated to the Hurricane Florence Relief Fund. However, everyone’s eyes were focused on the 2018-2019 Tar Heel Men’s Basketball scrimmage.
The blue team, led by senior guard Kenny Williams, ousted the white team 36-34. Williams hit a go-ahead jump shot in the final moments to give the blue team the advantage. One can’t put too much stock into a showcase scrimmage, but both teams shot poorly from the perimeter, and the majority of the points for both teams came from inside of the paint.
Carolina is ranked number 5 in Andy Katz’s preseason Power 36 college basketball rankings and 3rd in Sports Illustrated’s ACC preseason rankings.
Sophomore forward Sterling Manley is looking to avenge last year’s early exit from the NCAA Tournament.
“Just not going out in the second round to Texas A&M,” Manley said. “That is definitely something that should never happen. So just getting back to that point. I know it’s a marathon, not a sprint, but at the same time just getting back to that point. Just pushing past that milestone. That is what I’m most excited about and showing people what we can do.”
The next matchup for the Tar Heels will be an exhibition game against Mount Olive on November 2 at the Dean E. Smith Center.
