At Bull City Music School, they offer piano, violin, guitar and drum classes for adults and children. Classes can be taken as a group or individually for private practice. Spectacular Magazine had the honor of meeting the founder of the school for musicians to learn and evolve. Jeanetta Hopkins, founder of Bull City Music School, gave us some insight on why she is so passionate about her new endeavor.

“I was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. My upbringing has always been surrounded by music. My grandmother and her sisters were constantly perfecting their craft and eventually I fell in love with it. The community aspect stems from my parents. They were heavily involved in church and the local schools in my hometown”.

Meeting Ms. Hopkins, you can feel the genuine love she expresses for music and uniting her community. Ms. Hopkins is classically trained. She is a graduate from Jackson State University with a Bachelors degree in Music Education. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and very involved in her church and organizations.

It is important that creative’s have a safe space to learn and express themselves. With Durham being open to so many different people, Ms. Hopkins explained what Bull City Music School will bring to Durham. “The goal is to bring everyone together. Whether you are a beginner or experienced, my job is to educate the community on music. We will hold classes, summer camps and shows. It’s one thing to come and enjoy the music, or be a student, but to actually understand music and it’s foundation is the goal. I handpicked instructors that are experienced or can be molded into an exceptional leader and person overall. I also teach the business aspect of things. I reach out to Music Education majors at North Carolina Central University and other colleges to groom them before they go out into the world. Music is so diverse. I allow one on ones with students and instructors to stress the importance of being a successful person overall.”
