[#Motiv8Mondays] Shanita Ollison: Featured Artist Of The Week

Shanita Ollison is a musician and entrepreneur from Pamlico, NC. Her work is based on the quote “Art can save lives if people would let it”. She started playing the piano at the age of 5 when her mom noticed her infatuation with the church piano. Shanita started playing for her first church at 12 years old. 

Shanita is a music teacher as well as the Founder and Executive Director of Music Is Life and Beauties Who Love The Arts. She is influenced musically by Alicia Keys and Whitney Houston, and is motivated most by her daughter Abby. 

Aside from teaching in schools throughout the Raleigh/Durham area, she has also been curating events to encourage networking amongst creatives. She is the host of a holiday paint night that will be taking place on December 8, 2018, at the Durham Ballroom. The event is to benefit four local nonprofits. She will also be performing.

Shanita also plans to program a group piano class with more kids (k-12). Her nonprofit organization is partnered with the NCCU Fab Lab and would like to give more STEAM engagement in the area. She is also working on an arts camp that facilitates youth in the RDU area. Another project that you can look forward to is the advancement of her vision of Beauties Who Love The Arts; a women’s empowerment brand that focuses on networking and professional development for ladies who love the arts!
