[#Motiv8Mondays] King Draft: Featured Artist of the Week

Terrill Johnson, professionally known as King Draft or Draft, is a hip hop artist who currently resides in Durham, NC. Though he was born and raised in Plainfield, New Jersey, he proudly calls North Carolina home since his graduation from North Carolina Central University. 

King Draft entered the music industry “by mistake”. Despite his love for music, he didn’t experience first musical opportunity until a friend, who was also a rapper, allowed him to rap on a song. Obviously, it went way better than expected since he is no longer simply a featured artist, but an artist on the rise as well. His musical influences include Jay-Z, Beyoncè, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, and Lupe Fiasco, to name a few and he is motiv8ed by his son and his family. He has watched his parents and grandparents work so hard and he feels like they deserve the world. “I want my son to want for nothing. So that motivates me as well.” 

Recently, King Draft had the opportunity to perform on the Art of Cool Festival main stage with legendary artists such as Erykah Badu and Nas. He also was featured on Jamla is The Squad 2 with acclaimed artists such as 9th Wonder and Rapsody! King Draft is currently working on a show as headliner in the Raleigh Durham area very soon and hopes to again work with Jamla on another project in the near future.
