RALEIGH, NC. – NC State men’s basketball head coach Kevin Keatts announced Wednesday that Jalen Lecque has signed a national letter of intent to attend NC State and play basketball for the Wolfpack.
The Teaneck, NJ, native is listed as a five-star recruit by ESPN and Rivals. ESPN ranks him as the No. 22 overall player in the 2019 recruiting class. He is also listed by USA Today as a member of the Chosen 25, which is a ranking of the top recruits in the 2019 class.
Lecque is currently playing his senior season at prep school powerhouse Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., under head coach Jason Smith.
He played his junior year at Christ School in Arden, N.C. During his one season at Christ School, Lecque averaged 20.1 points, 9.3 assists and 9.1 rebounds a game for the Greenies while leading the program to a 23-13 overall record and a second round NCISAA playoff appearance.
Lecque played for Team Renaissance on the Nike EYBL circuit this summer. He averaged 14.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 21 games.
Lecque is the son of Derrick and Michelle Lecque.
Coach Keatts on Jalen Lecque:
Jalen is the most explosive player in the 2019 class and has become one of the premier playmakers in the country. He’s a dynamic point guard who is great at getting into the lane and finishing at the rim or creating offense for his teammates. Jalen fits the mold of everything we are looking for in a guard in our system and has the potential to become a lockdown defender. Jalen checks off all the boxes we look for in terms of recruiting a total student-athlete. He will be a great asset to not only our program, but to the entire NC State community. We look forward to welcoming Jalen and his family to Wolfpack Nation.”
