Wake Young Women’s Leadership Academy Celebrates Day Of The Girl
Raleigh, NC – Wake Young Women’s Leadership Academy (WYWLA) hosted Day of the Girl on Tuesday, November 20th. The event was held on their campus at 303 Ashe Ave. in Raleigh. They invited women leaders from various fields to connect with their students and empower them to continue to embrace leadership as future women leaders in their communities and around the world.
WYWLA’s academic program is predicated on leadership development. Students learn and practice leadership behaviors through daily classroom instruction and activities. WYWLA was established in 2012 to provide educational opportunities for young women in a rigorous single-gender academic program, with an emphasis on leadership development, entrepreneurship, and community service.
They support, enrich, and empower each young woman to become learners and leaders in local and global environments, and prepare young women for life-long learning through thought-provoking instruction.
When asked to expound on the premise of Day of the Girl, Principal Carla Jernigan-Baker shares, “Wake Young Women’s Leadership Academy celebrates Day of the Girl annually. It’s important for our students to understand the challenges that women face around the world. Our goal is to develop young women who are empowered to learn, lead, and serve their communities. We are able to accomplish this goal by inviting leaders from our community to our school to share their experiences. Our students are look forward to our Day of the Girl celebration because they know they will be inspired by outstanding women leaders.”
