Martin’s Big Night Not Enough, Lady Bears Fall to Livingstone
RALEIGH, NC – The Shaw University women’s basketball team lost 85-70 to Livingstone College in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division contest Monday night inside C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
The loss dips the Lady Bears (5-15) to 0-10 in conference play while LC (5-15) now stands 2-8 in league standings.
Senior KlinTisha Martin (Atlanta, GA) and freshman Amani Moxley (Moreno Valley, CA) led Shaw with 19 points each. Freshman Taylor Royster (Cleveland, OH) finished with 16 points. Defensively, junior Lynah Bontiff (Dominica, West Indies) grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds while Moxley and Martin added six and five rebounds.
After a 19-10 deficit in the first quarter, LC outscored Shaw 24-15 to take a 43-25 lead at halftime. Although Shaw managed to hold a 21-15 scoring margin in the fourth quarter, the Lady Blue Bears shot 41.5-percent from the floor in the second half including 50-percent (10-of-20) in the third quarter as LC scored 29 points off the Lady Bears turnovers and holding a 15-6 advantage in second chances and 20-7 frame from the bench.
Daisa Harris scored a game-high 25 points and eight assists to lead LC while Asia Green added 18 points and eight rebounds. Darra Walker contributed 14 pints and both Adel Allen and Kyala Searcy finished with 10 points.
Shaw will return to action Wednesday, Jan. 30 with a home contest against Fayetteville State at 6 p.m. in Spaulding.
