Serving Beyond: Lisa Gray, Registered Nurse Has Found ‘Essential Oil For Living’
Gastonia, NC – Lisa Gray, a Registered Nurse of 15 years, was born in Gastonia, NC and moved to the beautiful Smokey Mountains during most of her career. As a nurse, she has worked on a medical-surgical unit, in the oncology specialty, and in the long-term care setting. She has since transitioned into psychiatric nursing and currently works at CaroMont Health.
After an introduction to the world of essential oils by fellow nurse friend, Karyn Robinson, Lisa desired to learn more about alternative solutions to health concerns. While battling her own health issues and searching for relief for her bout with depression, Lisa began considering an all-natural solution through essential oils. Her use of oils was life-changing, so much so she chose to proceed with educating others on total wellness and alternative solutions.
When not practicing as a psychiatric nurse, Lisa serves beyond the traditional nursing role as a health wellness coach. Since becoming a health wellness coach, Lisa has a mission of educating on the positive benefits of complementary treatments to health and total wellness and founded Essential Oil For Living. She assist others in finding solutions to their health care needs with the use of essential oils. Lisa executes her mission through community involvement by getting out to local businesses and homes, and providing educational classes centered around the benefits of essential oil use for daily living practices.
I had the opportunity to speak with Lisa about her passion for the overall health and well-being of her patients and community, and how essential oils play a role.
What attracted you to the healthcare profession, particularly nursing?
I’ve always been a caregiver at heart, and in the 6th grade I knew I wanted to be a nurse. You might say I had a calling to help people at a young age. I loved that as a nurse you could meet different people and also help them in their time of need.
Do you feel you are making the impact you desire with patients in your daytime or 9-to-5 RN position?
Yes I do. I feel that I help a lot of people at their most vulnerable time in their life. From working in med-surg to long-term care to oncology and now being a psych nurse, I’m able to make a valuable impression and it feels good to help in this way.
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years as an RN?
I hope to provide natural products and remedies to patients and the community on a full-time basis. I also desire to expand globally and teach other women and nurses the benefits of entrepreneurial options beyond the traditional 9 to 5 role.
Let’s talk about serving beyond the traditional nursing position. When did you decide to launch out into the entrepreneurial arena as a healthcare professional?
I’ve always had the entrepreneurial spirit inside of me. My grandfather, George Craig, owned his own barbershop and was a great influence. When I discovered my time was limited within the traditional nursing career, I decided to become my own boss. I knew it was time to extend beyond the traditional nursing role because I wanted to get back to health solutions that are cheaper, safer and more effective. I love finding natural solutions for others, especially if they have tried western methods that are just not working.
What, or who, has served as your inspiration to focus on health & wellness as an entrepreneur?
I have to give credit to Karyn Robinson, Natasha Moses, and Christie Carnes who are also nurses and introduced me to other options in the healthcare profession.
What tips do you have for RNs or others in the healthcare field who desire to branch out and serve beyond as a healthcare professional?
Don’t wait. Just jump in and do it. The resources are out there to help you learn and grow.
