Durham, NC — Bull City Madness 2019 is Durham’s second annual 3v3 basketball tournament at Long Meadow Park. After a successful first run of the tournament in 2018, the Bull City Madness planning committee expects a larger, more refined tournament this year with an even greater impact on the community.

Bull City Madness is more than just a basketball tournament – it’s a chance to celebrate a city that has changed basketball throughout the world. There will be room for 50 teams of 4 people (three on the court and one substitute per team). The first half of the day will be a round-robin pool play format with a guarantee of three games per team, and the top two teams from each pool will advance to the tournament round for the second half of the day.

Most importantly, Bull City Madness serves as a fun way bring the community together and raise support for non-profits making an impact in Durham. In addition to the basketball games, there will be concessions, tables set up for nonprofits and community groups, a DJ and MC, and presentations to raise awareness about Durham’s sports heritage. This year there will be more activities, contests and food for people of all ages to make it a community day for all people. A half-time show during lunch will feature community groups like high school bands, dance groups and sports entertainers.

Participants can register with their team of 4 before Wednesday, April 4th to secure a spot in the tournament. The winning team will get $400 cash and $600 to a nonprofit of their choice. All teams get free meals, swag bags, T-Shirts, raffle tickets, and more. Additionally, businesses, faith communities, community groups, or anyone who wants to support can become a sponsor or register a table on the day of the event.

Even for those who won’t be able to be in attendance, Bull City Madness hopes to remind people of Durham’s basketball history, foster a culture of giving and generosity, and promote inclusiveness and fun. The Bull City Madness tournament will continue to be an annual event, growing each year in both size and social and economic impact.
