RALEIGH, N.C. – The North Carolina State University Men’s Basketball team (23-11) defeated the Hofstra University Pride (27-8) 84-78 yesterday in the first round of the National Invitational Tournament at Reynolds Coliseum.
Hofstra senior guard, and back-to-back CAA Player of the Year Justin Wright-Foreman shot 9-18 from the field to be the game’s leading scorer with 29 points.
After trailing 42-39 at halftime, Wolfpack junior guard Markell Johnson took over the game in the second half. He scored 20 of his 26 points in the second half.
Redshirt senior Wolfpack guard Torin Dorn scored 19 points for the Wolfpack, and redshirt junior guard CJ Bryce finished with 18 points and had a game-high 11 rebounds for a double-double.
Also worth mentioning, graduate student guard Eric Lockett played five minutes, and was charged with two personal fouls, in his first game since Feb. 9 after being reinstated to the team a week ago.
N.C. State plays the winner of Georgetown and Harvard in the second round of the NIT Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum.
