Travel Trends You Need To Be Aware Of

From eco-friendly vacations to micro-trips, there are a number of vacation trends you need to know about right now if you want to maximize your travel experiences and have a ball wherever you go…

Micro-Trips

Okay, so micro-trips, which are really just short weekend breaks, have always been a trend, but right now we’re focused on doing them better. As travel becomes ever more affordable, the micro-trip is being refined and refined into an art-form. These days, micro-trips are all about having a curated experience. Travelers are taking the time to find the most efficient route, the best transport, and the most interesting attractions so that they can pack more in and have a more unique experience than ever. Yurts under the stars, treetop restaurants, live music on the riverbank – micro-trips are getting serious

Conscious Traveling

Conscious travel is a concept that’s time has well and truly come. Concern for the environment has finally gone mainstream and more and more of us are looking at what we can do to minimize our impact on the planet. This has lead to an increase in people who are choosing where to travel based on concerns like their carbon footprint, social issues in potential travel destinations and the ability to do some good while on vacation. Being a lot more discerning is a big trend and one that could potentially make the world a better place for all of us.

Artificial Intelligence Aided-Travel

If you’ve traveled recently, chances are you’ve used some form of artificial intelligence to make your journey an easier, more enjoyable one. From speech recognition software that enables you to translate between languages and communicate with natives, to robot concierge’s who can help you with all of your travel needs, artificial intelligence is everywhere you turn and it can make life on the road a whole lot easier. Never again will you end up lost, confused or unable to communicate when you have technology at your fingertips.

Switching- Off

Of course, technology isn’t everyone and another big travel trend right now is the trend for meditation retreats and wellness trips, where you can go somewhere remote, switch off your smartphone and spend some time quietly contemplating life, the universe, and everything in beautiful surroundings.

Motorcycle Road Trips

Road trips have always been a popular way to get around and see more of the world than perhaps you might on a package vacation or regular trip where you fly in. For most people, these trips have always been done in a car, van or Winnebago, but right now, doing Route66 or exploring the cities of Europe, simply has to be done on a motorcycle, where you can fell the wind in your hair and it feels truly good to be alive. Of course, motorcycle riding is more dangerous, and Hupy and Abraham, who have been delivering measurable results for over five decades in the personal injury business would recommend riding with an experienced motorcyclist, taking out specialist insurance and, of course, taking every safety precaution on your motorcycle trip. Riding is an amazing adventure, but you must take it seriously.

Data-Based Decisions

In 2019, travelers are getting lazy, not when it comes to exploring, but when it comes to choosing their destinations themselves. More and more people are opting to have a travel expert come up with and tailor a vacation for them so that they don’t have to do their hard work themselves. Many travelers are even up for having AI travel assistants recommend them new travel locations based on where they have traveled and what they have done in the past. It will be interesting to see whether these AI ideas can be as good as the trips we have planned ourselves, but one thing’s for sure, they are set to become the norm in the future.

Space Adventures

Okay, so you’ll need to be part of the one percent if you want to try out this up-and-coming travel trend any time soon, but it’s worth noting that NASA is starting to build its Lunar Space Station this year, and when it’s complete – in 2022 if things go to plan – spaceflight will become a popular pursuit for those who can afford it. Something we could have only dreamed of in the past will be a reality and one that many of us will aspire to.

Learning Vacations

Another travel trend that’s gained traction in recent years is the trend to take a vacation where you can learn a skill along the way. Whether it’s learning how to become a scuba-diver in Thailand, taking a yoga teaching class in India or learning how to build houses in Africa, trips that have an enrichment element are big news. Gone are the days when vacations where all about sitting on a beach sipping cocktails and working on your tan, if you aren’t learning, you’re missing out.

Authentic Experiences

In 2019, more of us are spending our money on experiences than stuff and this extends to our travels too. Instead of spending all of our money on travel outfits, cocktails and souvenirs, we’re spending more and more on authentic experiences. We’re eating at local restaurants, trekking with locals, enrolling in classes that teach indigenous skills and generally putting more value in the things we do than the things we buy.

Sustainable Experiences

Millennials have led the way in ditching plastics and everyone else is starting to follow suit, not only in daily life but on vacation too. More travelers are now taking the time to choose plastic-free options in everything from their sunscreen to luggage, and the activities they choose. It’s difficult to have a completely plastic-free vacation, but taking the time and effort to make more sustainable choices when it is possible to do so, is a big trend and we are likely to see more travel companies popping up, who are offering sustainable experiences, in the months and years to come.
