How You Can Be Kind To Others

It may surprise you that this title doesn’t highlight any specific benefits to you in helping others. That’s because this article is only about others. And yes, giving may grant you a feel-good factor and purpose, but a real act of kindness isn’t based on what you will receive in return. There are a million ways you can make an impact and help others. And if you believe in the butterfly effect, you’ll know that your action big or small is likely to make a positive difference to someone’s life.

Volunteer

You can call a local charity, head into an old people’s home to ask if they need any extra help, or tidy up your local community park. Freely offering up your time to do something for others is you helping the world bit by bit, become a better place.

Use Your Skill Set

Tap into your skills and think about what you could offer for free that people really need and want. Maybe you’re a lawyer who could provide pro bono work for those who need a lawyer but have no way of funding one. Perhaps skills you have that you take for granted like using a computer, are difficult for other people such as your Grandma. And so you could offer up your time to help her use the computer to bring her up to speed with technology, show her how to do online grocery shopping and keep in touch over email.

Standup For Someone

This could be interpreted in a few ways. It might mean intervening when you see a kid being bullied in your street, to protect someone you can see is in a bad situation. It could mean that you’re aware that someone has died of wrongful causes and so you contact a law firm that specializes in wrongful death cases to seek advice and begin a claim for the persons immediate family. Or maybe your friend is suffering from sadness and a loss of confidence as a result of a toxic relationship, you could support them and help them leave their partner by offering for them to live with you and get back up on their feet.

Be Kind

Kindness goes a long way and can catch many people who wrapped in their own worlds off guard. Such as; smiling to passers-by on the street, letting someone go in front of you at the supermarket check-out, attending a doctors appointment with a family member who is suffering with anxiety, taking homemade baked goods for everyone to share at work, surprising your closest with a pre-planned birthday party with a banner saying your simple birthday message, or telling someone that you appreciate them. There are a ton of ways you can impact someone’s day by simply being kind and thoughtful.

As you can see, simple acts of giving and kindness, by giving your time, energy and attention or more important than your money. Practicing generosity and compassion is a powerful way to change others lives for the better and live a more fulfilling existence.
