Que For A Cause: Building A Stronger Community While Supporting The Community  

Henderson, NC – Get ready for some great “Que” at the Tri County BBQ Competition on Saturday, August 10th at the Kerr Lake Country Club (600 Hedrick Dr.). Hosted by Helping All People Excel (HAPE), a Henderson-based 501c3, this fun-filled, family-friendly event will feature 10 – 15 teams competing in the BBQ Competition, along with vendors, raffles and lots of fun for the residents of Vance County and surrounding areas. 

HAPE will, through this event and others, help build a stronger community while also giving back to the community.  Proceeds from the Tri County BBQ Competition will be used to provide college essentials to twenty-five (25) recent high school graduates from Vance County and surrounding areas.   These items will include laundry detergent, soap, toothpaste, and twin extra-long sheets…items that are essential for college but in most cases not covered by financial aid or scholarships.  As we all know, getting to college is a major accomplishment.  This accomplishment cannot be overshadowed by the struggle of not having what’s needed to survive while living on a college campus.

ABOUT HAPE

Helping All People Excel was created to do just what the name suggests – Help All People Excel, using the acronym HAPE (pronounced happy).  HAPE was formed in 2014 and received 501c3 status in 2017.  The mission is to increase the student persistence (percentage) rate of youth in urban and underprivileged areas from high school to college; then college to a successful career through access and exposure to various career fields.  HAPE exposes urban and underprivileged youth to numerous career choices and provides a pathway to success as a means of motivating them to look beyond their current circumstances and see the limitless possibilities before them.
