DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke women’s basketball program has released its 2019-20 non-conference schedule, featuring road tests against traditional powerhouses Texas A&M and South Carolina as well as seven games at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Joanne P. McCallie begins her 13th season at the helm of the Blue Devil squad with a season and home opener at Cameron Indoor Stadium against High Point Tuesday, Nov. 5 in the second meeting between the two sides.
Five days later, the Blue Devils fly to College Station, Texas to take on the Aggies of Texas A&M on Nov. 10 as three Blue Devils – Kyra Lambert, Jade Williams and Uchenna Nwoke — head back to their home state of Texas. Duke travels west to face UNLV November 14, before coming back to Durham for a five-game home stand in the confines of Cameron.
The first of the five-game home series is against Big Ten foe Northwestern (Nov. 17) as the Blue Devils look to avenge last year’s loss in Evanston. Idaho State (Nov. 21), Troy (Nov. 24) and Davidson (Nov. 27) visit the Cameron Crazies crowd before Penn caps off a nine-day span of four games for Duke on Nov. 29.
Duke faces its second Big Ten opponent as it heads to Lincoln, Nebraska to take on the Cornhuskers in the 13th edition of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. The Blue Devils look to improve on their 10-2 record in the event, their last loss in the challenge coming at the hands of Nebraska in 2014.
Duke heads south on either side of the winter break, taking on SEC-side South Carolina Dec. 19, before finishing the non-conference schedule Dec. 29 against Florida Gulf Coast.
Introducing the 2019-20 season are two exhibition matchups, beginning with the Blue vs. White game Sunday, Oct. 20. Duke will close exhibition play by once again hosting Alaska-Anchorage Nov. 3.
Times and television designations will be announced at a later date.
Recent Duke graduate Haley Gorecki will return for her final season with the Blue Devils after turning in one of the best individual campaigns in ACC history averaging 17.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.6 steals. Gorecki, who is from Palatine, Ill.., became the third Blue Devil to register 500 points, 200 rebounds, 100 assists and 75 steals in a season.
Gorecki is one of five starters returning in 2019-20 along with nine letterwinners that will join a solid recruiting class in Durham. McCallie and the Blue Devils (15-15 in 2018-19) look to return to NCAA Tournament action, after missing out in 2018-19.
