Chelsey Holts Host PB&Jams Aug. 24th: Blending Day Party With Community Service
Durham, NC – What started out as a mission to help combat homelessness, PB&Jams has the goal to make healthy food attainable to all – and make community service social. Created by Chelsey Bentley Holts of Nakoma Public Relations, the event initially started as an outlet for her desire to give back to the community she calls home. Last year’s event afforded her the opportunity to donate over 300 sandwiches to Urban Ministries of Durham and over $300 of much-needed supplies for the needy.
PB&Jams creates a social atmosphere where attendees can socialize and give back by creating sandwiches and writing messages for the homeless community and underserved youths. Blending the social aspects of a day party with community service, PB&Jams seeks to encourage attendees to leave the event feeling fulfilled and motivated to give back in other ways.
This year’s PB&Jams event will take place on Saturday, August 24th from 1 pm – 5 pm at Durham Arts Council – Allenton Gallery (120 Morris St.). In addition to making sandwiches and collecting supplies, they will also have music by Well$ and Immaculate Taste’s Alec Lomani, a “mini farmer’s market” with vendors, and interactive stations on gardening, juice samples from Abbi Jai catering, and healthy eating. There will be opportunities to win prizes from the Bulls of Durham. Food will be available for purchase. Vendor spots are also available. Options with or without a table are available.
The event is free with a suggested donation of sandwich making supplies or items on the wishlist for Urban Ministries. If you’re unable to grab items, a suggested donation of $5 to purchase supplies is asked.
