N.C. Central Eagles Soar Over Vikings in Home Opener

DURHAM, N.C. – After three opening losses, the N.C. Central Eagles took care of business against the Elizabeth City State Vikings, their former CIAA rivals, 45-7 behind the spectacular play of a newcomer.

Freshman quarterback Davius Richard led the way going 17-24 for 208 yards passing for three touchdowns passing.

Richard opened up the scoring for the Eagles with an 8-yard pitch-and-catch to sophomore wide receiver Tyler Barnes for a touchdown with 10:50 left in the first quarter to make the score 7-0 Eagle score.

The Vikings only points came from an 11-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Kedrick Patterson to senior wide receiver Dajuan Greene with 6:52 left in the second quarter to make the score 17-7.

Penalties were a problem for both teams. N.C. Central had 141 pentalty yards versus the Vikings’ 100 yards in penalties.

What’s Next

Elizabeth City State (0-3) takes on Fayetteville State (1-1) at home next Saturday, Sept. 28, in the 22nd Annual Down East Viking Classic.

The Eagles (1-3) travel to Baltimore next Saturday, Sept. 28, to take on the Morgan State Bears (0-3).
