Local Real Estate CEO Sponsors UNCF Women Who Lead Luncheon, Oprah Winfrey Keynotes

Charlotte, NC – Michelle Keaton-Barrow, CEO of Keaton Barrow Realty, is one of the sponsors of the UNCF Maya Angelou Women Who Lead Luncheon featuring Oprah Winfrey as the keynote speaker. The luncheon on Saturday, September 28, at the Westin Charlotte, benefits the United Negro College Fund, an organization celebrating 75 years of supporting historically black colleges and universities, assisting hundreds of thousands of deserving students, and advocating for minority higher education.

Oprah was a natural choice to provide continuing motivation to this group of accomplished business and community leaders. During the 17th anniversary of the beloved Charlotte summer tradition, women who have garnered positive recognition locally, statewide and nationally will be honored. This year’s Maya Angelou Women Who Lead honorees are Tiffany Eubanks-Saunders with Bank of America Private Bank, Madelyn L. Caple of Wells Fargo Private Bank; the Young Leader Honoree is Tish Guerin of the Carolina Panthers and owner of Transitions Management Group; and the Elizabeth Ross Dargan Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to Joan H. Zimmerman, CEO of Southern Shows.

For Keaton-Barrow, who is well known as both a philanthropist and successful entrepreneur, the chance to support this luncheon brought back some treasured memories. “One of the most profound things I have had the opportunity to experience in my life was an event in Atlanta where Maya Angelou was the keynote speaker,” Keaton-Barrow recalls. “When she finished, we all got to our feet, and believe it not, out from behind the stage came Coretta Scott King. I got to see Maya Angelou and Coretta Scott King on the same stage. That’s truly Women Who Lead.”

The event is organized by another woman who leads, UNCF Area Development Director Tiffany Lynn Jones. “Tiffany has done an amazing job. And the fact that this event supports UNCF aligns with my ongoing passion to promote education,” Keaton-Barrow notes.

With more than 27 years experience in commercial and residential real estate, Keaton-Barrow has developed a reputation as an experienced businesswoman, CEO and a trusted expert whose knowledge of current market trends, neighborhood statistics, and insurance information is unmatched. She honed her leadership skills as a college professor, business owner and board member. Her passion for philanthropy is demonstrated by the numerous non-profit and charitable entities that she supports, including serving as a mentor for SCORE, a member of the Charlotte Business and Inclusion Advisory Committee, and service on the board for the United Minority Contractors of North Carolina, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Black Chamber of Commerce, PAVE Charter School, and the Women’s Impact Fund of Charlotte.

Saturday’s event is sold out.
