Duke Football Bounces Back With an Exciting Homecoming Game
Durham N.C. – Saturday at Wallace Wade Stadium “Brooks Field” the Duke Blue Devils took the field against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. This was also Duke’s Homecoming game and Duke definitely handled business and defended their home turf winning 41-23 for a convincing win in front of the Durham crowd.
21,741 people filled the seats here at Wallace Wade Stadium to show the support for the Blue Devils and Yellow Jackets showdown as the fighter jets flew over to signal the start of the game, next thing you know fire blasts then fireworks explode and out come the Blue Devils.
Wallace Wade Stadium had a lot of options for food, clothing, activities, as well as concessions. Some of the options included Devil Dogs, Nachos, Popcorn, Chicken Sandwiches (Bojangles), Pizza (Pie Pushers), Blue Bunny Ice Cream, Beef Brisket, Chicken Tenders, Fries, Steak and Cheese Sandwiches, Quesadillas, Chips, Cotton Candy, and Tacos. Duke doesn’t sell alcoholic beverages but they had other options such as Fresh Squeezed Lemonade, Water and Soda.
Many different outlets, tents, and shops presented people in attendance the opportunity to purchase Duke Blue Devil attire including jerseys, hats, shirts, pants, socks, for all age groups and reasonably priced ranging from 12 to 22 dollars.
Outside of the stadium Duke even had some events directly setup intended for people wanting to be active including inflatables, the inflatables were a 30-foot long obstacle course to race against another person and quarterback throwing challenge which gave away prizes.
The mascot was very hype and had people standing out there seats with help from the music being played from the stadium. Now the band was on point today had a lot of people moving, dancing and cheering on the home team it was a great environment.
We also had a surprise from the Dancing Devil Cheerleaders, with it being Homecoming today fellow alumni and old Dancing Devil members came onto the field and joined the current cheerleaders, they performed one of their classic routines for a great timeout performance.
The game atmosphere was tremendous the Duke-faithful were in full effect between students, fans, and members from the military everyone was cheering for the Blue and White, that is everyone except the Georgia Tech fans who made the trip.
As far as the game goes Duke’s offense was flowing led by quarterback Quentin Harris, who finished the game going 11-for-20, threw for 176 passing yards, and accounted for 44 rushing yards as well as a rushing touchdown.
Also, the tandem running back duo of Mataeo Durant and Deon Jackson helped the Blue Devils literally run away with the game, the duo finished with 143 yards, Jackson scored two touchdowns.
Be sure to come out and support the Duke Blue Devils (4-2, 2-1 ACC) for the rest of the season especially when they are playing a game at home. The next time the Blue Devils will be playing at home will be November 9th against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
