Wildcats Hands Lady Blue Devils Worst Home Loss Since ’89
Durham N.C – A 29-4 run in the third quarter led to the downfall of the Lady Blue Devils, as Northwestern ran past Duke in Cameron Indoor 63-42 on Sunday.
From the start of the game until halftime we had a very competitive game going on with the score being tied at 25.
The third quarter is where the game got away from Duke. The lady Blue Devils first were outscored in the third quarter 29-4, then they shot the ball a disappointing 11% going 2-for-18, which including no three-point attempts, or any trips to the foul line.
The Lady Blue Devils didn’t have that much production offensive wise only finishing the game shooting 28% from the field, 21% from beyond the arch, and 36% from the charity line.
Only two Duke players had double figures, Jade Williams finished with 11 points, 6 rebounds and a block while Haley Gorecki finished with 10 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal.
Leaonna Odom and Miela Goodchild contributed 8 points apiece, outside of that there wasn’t much help on the offensive end, and no players shot above 50% which ultimately loses games.
On the plus side, the Lady Blue Devils did outrebound their opponent, gathering 44 rebounds off of the glass.
Northwestern was led by junior Lindsey Pulliam who finished the game with 26 points, 5 rebounds, and two assists.
This was the worst home loss to an unranked opponent at home under Coach P (21-point deficit). The 29 points given up by Duke in the third quarter was the third most in Duke history. The home loss was the worst home loss since February 8, 1989, against unranked Clemson (L, 71-50). The 28% field goal percentage is the lowest percentage of the season.
The Lady Blue Devils will return back home for their second of a five-game homestand as Idaho State comes into Cameron Indoor Stadium on Thursday, November 21st.
