G Yamazawa ‘Yao Ming’ Video Shoot, Performance At Motorco: Bit of Grit, Bit of Grace
Durham, NC – North Carolina hip-hop artist G Yamazawa celebrated his birthday with a video shoot for his new single Yao Ming and performance back in his hometown Nov. 15. From the moment we stepped into Motorco, a nightclub in downtown Durham, we felt the energy. There was a beautiful mixture of people who all came out to vibe to some good music.
We were welcomed with extremely hyped tunes of Cambodian-born DJ Paradime, giving us an amazing kickoff to the festivities by playing social anthems such as “Work” by A$AP Ferg, “Knuck If You Buck” by Crime Mob, OutKast’s “International Players Anthem”, “March Madness” by Future, and many more classics. The 45-minute vibe that he gave us went perfectly into the set of the man of the hour.
G Yamazawa (or better known by his fans as simply ‘G’) is a Japanese American hip-hop artist hailing from Durham, North Carolina. G started his music career after graduating from Jordan High School. In community college, he discovered hybrid performers like Black Ice, introducing him to the concept of performative poetry. He began touring on the slam poetry circuit, performing with the Durham team The Sacrificial Poets, which he helped start. He has been featured on HBO a handful of times. G’s poems are what made him fall in love with wordplay and gained him notoriety across the country and abroad.
Little Bit of Grit
When G hit the stage it was apparent the night was his and we were there for him. He came out to his brand new single Yao Ming where he interacted with the crowd by standing amongst the people and rapping in the middle of the packed house, all the while shooting a video for the single. As he says in Yao Ming lyrics…” a little bit of grit with a little bit of grace.”
G’s stage presence continued to shine as he performed his breakout song North Cack along with a slew of songs from his latest project entitled “Good Writtens.” He doubles back to the classic mixtape days where one raps over industry beats but puts his own taste to things. The independent MC also performed songs from his project last year entitled “Time is Money” that left the crowd stunned.
Little Bit of Grace
G Yamazawa has given a breath of fresh air to hip-hop connoisseurs of all kinds. He thanked the hometown fans for all their love and support. The humble MC took time to take pictures and shake hands with all his excited fans who waited anxiously.
Stating that he is still one hundred percent independent, G exclaimed that he “has no plans of stopping the machine that is the G Yamazawa train!”
G Yamazawa will be back at Motorco Dec. 28 at 8 pm, along with M8alla, The Beast and special guests.
