Celebrate African American Theater In The Triangle!

Raleigh, NC – In 2020, the theater season in the Triangle area will feature several dynamic and exciting African American shows. On January 19, 2020, the Triangle Friends of African American Arts will present its annual African American Theater Preview at the Raleigh Little Theatre. This special event will provide a “sneak peak” of ten African American shows that will hit the stages in 2020. There will be scenes from dramatic plays and songs from musicals. Mike Williams of The Black on Black Project will host.

The Raleigh Little Theatre is one of the companies that will perform. Founded by Kenneth Hinton, the company produces and promotes plays from predominantly African American playwrights while reaching across social, economic and racial boundary lines. Hinton appreciates that the Theater Preview helps to increase awareness of his performances. “We always get a great response from the community. People tell us that after experiencing a preview of our show, they look forward to seeing the full performance.”

Highlights from the January event will include scenes from A Raisin in the Sun by the Raleigh Little Theatre and an original new play about the founders of Durham’s Black Wall Street. The NC Theatre will present a song from Memphis, a Tony award-winning musical. Additional companies that will be featured are Black Poetry Theatre, North Raleigh Arts & Creative Theatre, Pure Life Theatre and more.
