A Fall From Grace

[Trailer] Tyler Perry’s ‘A Fall From Grace’ Stars Crystal Fox, Phylicia Rashad, Bresha Webb

A new year brings a new Tyler Perry project. The filmmaker’s first 2020 title is A Fall from Grace, a romantic thriller with a legal drama slant and an undercurrent of violence. The Netflix movie boasts a cast and creative team composed largely of people of color, including cinematographer Terrence Laron Burke (BlacKkKlansman).

Now that’s certainly not a first for a Perry production but it’s still pretty rare in Hollywood at large. Netflix is trying to change that metric as part of its ‘Strong Black Lead’ contingent of projects.

Perry writes, directs, and stars in A Fall from Grace, also starring Crystal FoxPhylicia RashadBresha Webb, and Mehcad Brooks, with Academy Award-nominee Cicely TysonTyler Perry’s A Fall from Grace arrives on Netflix on January 17th.

When gentle, law-abiding Grace (Cynthia Fox) confesses to killing her new husband, her skeptical young lawyer sets out to uncover the truth.

About The Cast

A Fall From Grace; Crystal Fox
Fox

Crystal Fox was born in Tryon, North Carolina, and began her professional acting career in the late 1970s. She is best known for her role as Police Officer Luann Corbin in the series In the Heat of the Night (1988). She has also appeared in several theatrical productions, including “For Colored Girls” and “Everybody’s Ruby”. In 2013 she was cast as lead “Hanna Young” in the OWN prime-time soap opera The Haves and the Have Nots (2013) from producer Tyler Perry.

A Fall From Grac; Phylicia Rashad
Rashad

Phylicia Rashad was born in Houston, Texas. As a child, Phylicia, her older brother Andrew (called Tex), and younger sister, dancer, and actress Debbie Allen, lived in Mexico. She has another brother, Hugh Allen (a real estate banker in North Carolina). Their mother decided to live in Mexico to give the Allen children a brief experience of not having to endure the chronic racism and segregation that was typical of Texas during the 1950s. Phylicia and Debbie are fluent in Spanish. Phylicia graduated from Howard University and later taught drama there. With younger sister Debbie Allen, she has a production company, D.A.D., which stood for Doctor Allen’s Daughters. Her Pulitzer-nominated mother is the artistic and free spirit that has influenced and encouraged the remarkable creativity that so marks Rashad as a performer.

Webb

Bresha Webb graduated for Baltimore School for the Arts and is known for Meet the Blacks (2016), Night School (2018) and Ride Along 2 (2016).

A Fall From Grace; Mehcad Brooks
Brooks

Mehcad Brooks continues to rise as one of Hollywood’s most promising stars. Brooks was in USA’s new drama Necessary Roughness (2011), in which he portrayed Terrence “TK” King, the star wide receiver for the Hawks who is becoming notorious for his frequent fumbles — not to mention his regular run-ins with the law. An athlete himself, Brooks grew up in Austin, Texas where he was an All-State basketball player in addition to playing football and baseball. He was accepted into Yale University, but instead attended the University of Southern California to study at their prestigious School of Cinema-Television. He is a SAG Award winner for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series on the ABC show Desperate Housewives (2004), playing the role of Alfre Woodard‘s son. It was his portrayal of character ‘Matthew Applewhite’ which led to an Image Award nominee for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance and his inclusion in Daily Variety’s “Ten Young Actors to Watch” feature in August 2005.
