Louisville Too Much For Duke Down The Stretch
DURHAM, N.C. – Duke’s comeback effort falls short in Cameron Indoor Stadium as the Louisville Cardinals defeated the Blue Devils 79-73 for the second-straight Duke loss.
With the loss, third-ranked Duke falls to 15-3 (5-2 ACC) while 11th-ranked Louisville improves to 15-3 (6-1 ACC).
The Blue Devils would cut the lead down to one with a Jordan Goldwire fastbreak layup to make the score 71-70. Louisville would answer with a quick 5-0 run to extend the lead and would not look back.
Offensively, the Cardinals were led by David Johnson, who finished the game with 19 points and 7 assists. Louisville had four players in double-digit scoring figures.
Duke was led by freshman guard Cassius Stanley, who had a game-high 24 points to go alongside a career-high 11 rebounds. Freshman forward Matthew Hurt added 16 points to the effort.
Duke will have a quick turnaround as the Blue Devils host the Miami Hurricanes on Tuesday, January 21st at 9 pm.
