Shaw Divinity Hosts 47th Annual Alexander/Pegues Ministers’ Conference
Raleigh, NC – The Shaw University School of Divinity will host the 47th annual Alexander/Pegues Ministers’ Conference at the Thomas J. Boyd Chapel in the heart of Shaw University’s campus, from Wednesday, April 1st to Friday, April 3rd. The annual conference brings together national faith leaders to discuss the intersectionality between spirituality and social justice. This year’s theme, “Awakening: Rising to a Kairos Moment,” refers to the definition of the Greek word “kairos” as “the proper and opportune moment for action.”
“This conference is designed to promote an awakening of the moral and spiritual leadership that is necessary for lasting social change in our churches and in the community. ‘Rising to a Kairos moment’ says that the time for that kind of leadership is now, ” said Dr. Johnny B. Hill, dean of the Shaw University School of Divinity. The diverse group of prominent conference speakers and presenters includes Rev. Dr. Jazz Scurlark; Bishop Sir Walter Mack; Jr., Rev. Mark T. Gibson; Dr. Leslie D. Callahan; Rev. Emmett L. Dunn; Dr. Kimberly Moore; Dr. John Mendez; Dr. Wayne E. Croft; Sr., Dr. Gregory K. Moss; State Senator Erica Smith Ingram; Hoke Co. Commissioner Allen Thomas; and Bishop Marvin L. Sapp.
The conference also will welcome the new Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the General Baptist State Convention (GBSC), the Rev. Dr. Tony W. Barr, Sr. Barr brings both corporate and pastoral experience to his position with GBSC, which is the largest African American organization in North Carolina. He holds a D.Min. from Virginia Union University, an M.Div. from Apex School of Theology, an M.A.C.E.from Guildford School of Theology, and a BS in business information systems from Winston-Salem State University.
