Catawba College Alum, ‘The Good Doctor’ Star JASIKA NICOLE: Artist Of The Week
Jasika Nicole, actress and book illustrator originally from Birmingham, Alabama, is the Spectacular Magazine Featured Artist of the Week for the week of May 10, 2020. She is a proud graduate of Catawba College in Salisbury, NC, where she studied Theatre Arts. During her time there, Nicole also had the opportunity to discover and hone many other talents that fueled her creative spirit. She was honored to deliver the commencement speech to the Class of 2012 and has established a scholarship fund to assist graduating seniors preparing for careers in the world of theatre.
Nicole can currently be seen on the hit ABC series The Good Doctor, which follows the journey of Dr. Shaun Murphy (played by Freddie Highmore) as he navigates the unique demands of being a surgeon with autism. Nicole’s character, Dr. Carly Lever, is a pathologist who has a romantic relationship with Murphy. This season the show has given viewers the opportunity to really get to know her character and watch the groundbreaking relationship evolve. She is no stranger to the small screen. She first made her mark on the wildly popular FOX series Fringe alongside Joshua Jackson. She played Astrid Farnsworth, as Walter’s (John Noble) lab assistant and worked her way up to being a field agent by the fourth season. She also had large roles in hit drama series such as Scandal and Underground. Other notable TV credits include guest-starring roles on Station 19 and Major Crimes just to name a few.
Nicole identifies as biracial and has said that while growing up as biracial, there were very few TV characters with whom she could identify. Nicole identifies as queer and currently resides in New York City.
