Should You Visit The Doctor During The COVID-19 Crisis?

The COVID-19 crisis has put a huge amount of pressure on health services, and hospitals are having to convert a lot of space into special wards to deal with coronavirus patients. Many clinics are being used as testing facilities as well. One of the biggest questions that people have is whether they should see the doctor or not if they are sick. There is some confusion about whether medical facilities are open during the crisis to treat non-COVID patients, and people naturally have concerns about getting sick. So, should you be going to the doctor right now or not?

Are Medical Facilities Open?

A lot of people are unsure about whether medical facilities are even open to patients or not. The answer depends on where you are and how many COVID-19 cases there are in the area, but the majority of medical facilities are still open for emergency appointments. You are still able to go to the emergency room if you need immediate treatment for a serious injury or illness. There is also treatment available for tooth emergencies during COVID-19, but routine appointments of any kind are being canceled right now. If you have a minor problem that is not that serious, it is unlikely that you will be able to get to see a doctor. However, if you have a serious medical issue, you shouldn’t ignore it and you should see a doctor.

What About Virtual Appointments?

crisisMany medical facilities have moved over to virtual appointments, so you can still speak with a doctor without having to risk going to a medical facility in person. This is an effective way to protect you and the medical staff that are working so hard to keep people safe. Before you head out to a hospital, you should consider whether it is something that can be dealt with via video call. In many cases, the doctor doesn’t need to see you in person, and virtual appointments are the safer option.

How Serious Is The Problem?

It’s natural for people to be worried about their health right now, and every sneeze or cough can make you worry that you have caught Coronavirus. However, it’s important that you are realistic about your health and you think about how serious the problem is. If you are coughing and sneezing, could it just be allergies? If you have another health problem, consider things like the level of pain that you are experiencing, and the length of time that you have the problem. It may be best to wait a day or two, if possible, and see if you feel better. However, if you are in a lot of pain and you are very concerned, you should still seek medical advice.

It’s a difficult question to answer because you need to consider your own safety and the safety of others if you are going to visit a medical facility that is treating COVID-19 patients. As a general rule, you should try to avoid it during this crisis if possible or have a virtual appointment. However, don’t ignore serious health problems and seek medical advice if you are concerned.
