NC State Secures Grad Transfer Perez
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State women’s basketball team has added Raina Perez to its roster, as announced by head coach Wes Moore on Thursday. Perez is transferring from Cal State Fullerton and will have one season of eligibility remaining. She will be immediately eligible to play for the Wolfpack beginning with the 2020-21 season.
A 5-4 guard, Perez competed for the Titans during the 2018-19 and 2019-2020 seasons and was ranked the No. 5 graduate transfer in the nation by ESPN. She was selected as the Big West Player of the Year for the 2019-20 campaign after leading the league in scoring with 19.8 points per game. That mark was good for 14th in the nation, and she also owned national top-15 marks in field goals made (5th – 239) and final points (9th – 613). In total, Perez has compiled 1,293 career points through her three seasons of collegiate competition.
“We’re very excited to add such a prolific scorer as Raina Perez,” Moore said. “A combo guard, she can create her own shot while also keeping her teammates involved. With the recent graduation of three talented guards, Raina brings much-needed experience and scoring to the position.”
In addition to her 19.8 points per game, Perez averaged 5.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists during her redshirt junior season. She scored 30+ points in four outings in 2019-20, including a career-high 34 points on three different occasions. After starting all 31 games, Perez posted double figures in all but one outing. In 2018-19, she averaged a team-leading 13.0 points and 5.0 assists.
Prior to her time with the Titans, Perez spent the first year of her collegiate career at Northern Arizona. She appeared in all 30 games as a freshman, averaging 10.1 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists for the Lumberjacks in 2016-17. That season, she led all freshmen in the Big Sky Conference in scoring during league play (11.9 points per game) and recorded 16 double-digit scoring performances.
The Goodyear, Ariz., native attended Millennium High School where she holds the school record for most points, assists and steals. Perez was named Division I Player of the Year and All-Section Team in 2015 and also earned a spot on the All-Division I First Team in 2016.
The daughter of Jeffery and Veronica Perez, Raina has three siblings: Gabriella, Jeffery Jr. and Izziah.
