Stewart

“There’s no better time to move from talking about our intentions to change, than to acting in ways that show we are serious about changing – by shifting power, trusting more, and letting resources flow to our communities of color,” said Valerie Stewart, Director, Healthy Communities, Blue Cross NC Foundation & Triangle Capacity Building Network member. “We have to own our role in the relationships and networks we’ve designed that create barriers to leaders who are Black, Indigenous, people of color, and it’s past time to give them the resources, support, and capacity to do what they do best – meeting community needs while in deeply rooted, authentic relationships. We want to do more than talk, and that’s why we’re committed to this type of funding – let’s disrupt, act differently, and spend the dollars to engage the difference we want to see – communities with leadership that includes and values the voices and lived experiences of people of color. That is the healthy, strong, nonprofit ecosystem our community deserves.”

Triangle Capacity-Building Network, in partnership with other funders and donors, has committed to additional grant funding as part of this collaborative strategy to strengthen the business models, financial health, and sustainability of nonprofits in our region. The Network will also provide education and learning resources to Triangle-based nonprofits.
