Hersey Pharmacy Now Offering Flu Shots & New Lifestyle Modification Program
Time to get your flu shot
It may be difficult to imagine flu shots while we are still in summer. However, in September it will be time to start planning to get your flu shot for the upcoming season. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) strongly recommends that everyone get a flu shot this year to “reduce the overall burden of acute respiratory illness” especially with coronavirus circulating around.
It is particularly important that people who are high risk, including but not limited to, those that are over the age of 65, diabetic, hypertensive, and immunocompromised get the flu vaccine this year because of COVID19. However, this year the flu vaccine should be a priority for everyone including children. While the flu vaccine does not protect you from COVID19, you do not want to risk the flu making you more susceptible to COVID19 or vice-versa. Protect yourself from the flu at least. The good news is that most insurances including Medicare and Medicaid cover the flu vaccine. So, there is no cost to you.
How will Hersey Pharmacy handle flu shots?
Hersey Pharmacy, located in Woodcroft Shopping Center (4711 Hope Valley Rd Suite 5f, Durham, NC), will begin flu shots on September 1st. It is strongly recommended that you get your flu shot between September and mid-October to give your body enough time to fully generate the antibodies needed for full protection. Hersey Pharmacy has the quadrivalent formulation and the high-dose form for patients 65 and over. Due to COVID19, they will follow CDC guidelines and require that you wear a mask during the administration, and they will perform a temperature check before administering the vaccine.
There are a few options for your flu shot at Hersey Pharmacy. You can make an appointment and come by the pharmacy, or your flu vaccine can be administered at work or in some cases, at your home. Also, the team at Hersey Pharmacy can conduct a flu clinic at your workplace. All CDC recommended guidelines will be followed when administering the vaccine with masks and face shields.
New lifestyle modification program in the works
Hersey Pharmacy is in the early stages of starting a lifestyle modification program. You may think it sounds crazy for a pharmacist to offer this type of program. But wouldn’t you like to reduce or get off your medications for diabetes, high cholesterol, or hypertension? Wouldn’t you like to feel better, look better, and have a better future?
Dr. Keith Hersey, PharmD, RPh, is beta testing a program that will help you with wellness. He is currently looking for 4 people who are willing to make a 6-month commitment to complete a lifestyle modification program to drastically improve their health. Dr. Hersey will waive the enrollment fee, for these first few patients. You will only be required to pay for the food, which is less the cost for an average dinner out.
Call (919) 346-4008 or email herseypharmacy@gmail.com if you are interested in more details about the lifestyle modification program, to schedule an appointment for your flu shot, and/or to transfer your prescriptions. Hersey Pharmacy is dedicated to building a healthier Durham.
