Netflix Introduces ‘Watch Free’ Library For Non-Subscribers
Netflix has unveiled a new promotion that offers a selection of its original movies and TV show episodes to non-subscribers for free. The streamer’s new “Watch Free” page invites users to sample some of its content without a subscription. “Netflix is the premier destination for all your entertainment needs,” the website states. “But don’t take our word for it–check out some of our favorite movies and TV shows, absolutely free.”
The current selection of free titles on the website comprises of the Sandra Bullock thriller Bird Box, the Oscar-nominated biopic The Two Popes, and the Sandler-Aniston comedy Murder Mystery, which was the platform’s most popular release last year.
On the TV side, Netflix is offering pilot episodes of some of its most popular shows, including Stranger Things, Elite, Boss Baby: Back in Business, When They See Us, Love Is Blind, Our Planet, and Grace and Frankie, starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.
Netflix notes on the catalog’s corresponding support page that non-subscribers can access its free-to-watch library of movies and TV episodes by using web browsers on computers and Android devices (while iOS browsers are not currently supported).
Over the years, Netflix has garnered a reputation for spending enormous amounts of money to secure original streaming content for its platform in a bid to stay ahead of its competitors in the increasingly crowded streaming landscape. In fact, it was projected earlier this year that Netflix would be spending $17.3 billion on new content for 2020, up from $15.3 billion last year.
