Young Men Of Excellence Program For Boys Of Color Now Accepting Applications
Durham, NC – The Charles Hamilton Houston Foundation, Inc., in partnership with North Carolina Central University School of Law is accepting applications for boys of color in grades 6 through 12 for the Young Men of Excellence Program. The 2020-2021 Kick-Off will be virtual through Zoom on Saturday, September 19, 2020, from 10:00 am until 11:30 am. The College and Career Academy will be held the first and third Saturdays each month virtually through Zoom due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Young Men of Excellence Program is a FREE college readiness and career preparation program designed to motivate and guide boys of color, grades 6 through 12, to acquire the skills, knowledge, experiences, and network to ensure success in all areas of life. The program includes academic support, college access and persistence services, leadership development, and career exploration.
According to the press release, the Program will provide longitudinal guidance and support to boys of color to make informed choices about their education to acquire the skills, knowledge, and experience to prepare them for their career pathway. Empowering and transforming the lives of boys and young men of color to position them for long-term competitive advantage in the classroom and workplace to facilitate socio-economic change or there is the risk of them opting for alternatives such as gangs and drugs.
Activities of the program will include college prep coaches, career prep coaches, College & Career Academy, tutorial and academic assistance sessions, career conversations, business, law and STEM competitions, community service projects, civic engagement, job shadowing & internships, and scholarships.
