Looking For A New Comic Book Superhero Outlet? Here Are Some Suggestions

Comic books have been a significant part of your life for as long as you can remember. Even in those in-between years where you packed your comic books away and thought they were for kids, you still recognized the villains and rooted for the heroes. You might have even been glued to the TV whenever you caught an animated series playing on a Saturday morning.

But, with such exposure to comic books, there’s a chance you feel overwhelmed and maybe even too exhausted to dive back into the Marvel and DC universes. Perhaps you’re looking for another outlet. Here are some suggestions to check out.

A Whole New Universe
Valiant Universe characters

For as long as we can remember, DC and Marvel have ruled the roost, even if Dark Horse’s Sin City had a brief cameo a few years ago. However, this could all be about toe change, as long as the comic book community pledges to support it and bring about positive change.

With the plans DMG has for Valiant films, there is a profound opportunity to change the status quo as we know it. With a larger universe and more diverse and modern cast of characters, there is the chance to appeal to the current class of comic book fans, and you might fall in love with something new and feel like a kid again.

Stop Relying On Movies

Comic book movies have been a way to tell The Story for years. Still, the problem with these movies is that they are either too short, and therefore miss out crucial development, or they are too long, which can wear the viewer out.

The alternative is TV shows. These give you around ten episodes to develop plotlines, characters and lay the groundwork for future seasons and revelations. While Marvel’s initial Phase is over, productions such as WandaVision and Loki can scratch an itch, build on existing lore, and answer questions you didn’t even know you had.

Support Independent Publishers

Even though Marvel and DC are the biggest companies in the comic book world, this doesn’t mean they are the only ways to get your superhero fix. If you want to find publishers that tackle relevant issues and aren’t restricted by the whims of investors and shareholders, you need to go independent.

There is a wide range of publishers that can offer this, including Amulet Books and Oni Press. If you’re a creator yourself, you may even be able to submit your own work to reach a broader audience.

Go Back

comicWith the exhausting rate at which comic book movies and TV are released, it’s easy to lose sight of why you loved them in the first place. Anyone who feels worn out by the current crop of sleek, stylish media can consider going back to the productions they loved as a child.

Batman: The Animated Series is still the pinnacle for many fans. It is timeless enough to hold up to the current crop of superhero media, with both quality writing and excellent animation. Even if you’re more of a Marvel fan, there are plenty of old school productions for you to enjoy.

A Breath of Fresh Air

Exposing yourself to too much modern media can get to you eventually, and this is why these alternative avenues are a great way to get a breath of fresh air while still giving you a comic book fix.
