Bethune-Cookman Announces No Sports This Spring
Bethune-Cookman University announced on Tuesday (Oct. 27) that they will not be holding any sporting events this season, due to COVID-19 risks.
With this announcement, Bethune-Cookman becomes the first NCAA Division 1 school to cancel sports for the entire 2020-21 season.
The university cites the main reason for this decision due to a “recent spike in COVID-19 positivity rates in the state, across Volusia County and on our campus,” as the reason for not playing this coming spring stated by BCU President E. LaBrent Chrite.
Earlier this fall, The MEAC announced plans for its fall athletics to take place in the spring of 2021. Bethune-Cookman was included in that original plan.
