Howell Leads Tar Heels Comeback Effort to Defeat Wake
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina Tar Heels (6-2) defeated the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (4-3) by the score of 59-53. Highlighting the game was Quarterback Sam Howell set a Tar Heel single-game record in passing yards and touchdowns. Howell finished the game 35-for-45, threw for 550 yards, threw for six touchdowns, ran in for another with only one interception.
On the receiving end for the Tar Heels, two wideouts stood out and definitely came out to play and put on a show. Dazz Newsome reeled in 10 catches for 189 yards adding on two touchdowns. Dyami Brown also hauled in eight catches for 163 yards and tacked on two touchdowns.
Earlier this week Sam Howell spoke about not extending plays too long “I think there were a couple plays on Saturday where I try to extend the play a little too long”, “You know, it’s one of those things where when you try to extend a play too long and it works out for you, it’s good. But when it doesn’t work, it’s bad.”
The question going into today’s game was can the Tar Heels continue to dominate the ground game and get things going through the air, well that question was definitely answered today. Coach Mark Bown spoke about it earlier in the week “the players need to learn how to grow up and act more maturely after big wins to avoid losing the next game.”
