New Children’s Book Celebrates Kamala Harris As America’s First Black Vice President

vice presidentOakland, CA – A new children’s book entitled “Ella B. Jenkins Meets Vice President Kamala Harris” written by authors Eve Lynne Robinson and Whitney Jade Gordy, MFT pays homage to America’s first-ever Black and Asian Vice President.

In the fictional story, after meeting VP Harris at a march on Washington, Ella B. Jenkins, a perpetually fun-loving second grader with all-seeing eyes, larger-than-life afro puffs, and passionate perspectives, does what she does best — takes the reader on adventurous while traversing culture, ability, class, and political climates.

Ella B. Jenkins is a fictional character that is intended for all children to look up to. Ella B’s adventures offer perspectives from a mixed variety of cultures, social classes, and viewpoints influenced by the quickly changing political and social climates. She has a curiosity for all things within her community and is both intelligent and wise beyond her years. Ella B promotes various social causes and is enthusiastic about enhancing social consciousness through related adventures.

Ella B has met both President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. She has virtually protested with Occupy Wall Street, promoted summer lunch programs in the city of Oakland, celebrated her knowledge of foods and meals that celebrate her Black culture, marched for peace, and shouted Black Lives Matter to protest police brutality and criminalization of communities of color.

Created in 2009, the force behind this visionary character is multifaceted mixed media artist Eve Lynne Robinson, who co-wrote this installment with Los-Angeles therapist Whitney Jade Gordy, MFT.

Eve Lynne Robinson

Eve Lynne is an Oakland based artist and holistic healing entrepreneur. Finding inspiration from all around,  Lynne spends her time creating ceramics, illustrations, and other mixed media forms. Having grown up in Los Angeles, much of her art reflects her passion for urban culture and the multitude of traditions and experiences that surround her day-to-day.

For years she has thrived making art in her home studio, creating personal pieces that integrate a hybrid aesthetic intended to amplify the voices of the underrepresented, collaborations with local activists and motivators of social change, and cathartic community resilience.

Eve Lynne continues to create pieces of art that further reflect the intention of creative therapeutic release and healing and inspire others with the lasting benefits that accompany creative art expression within a multiculturally rich and diverse atmosphere.

The Ella B. Jenkins Meets series represents her passion and is a testimony to her life’s work including establishing the Ella B. Jenkins Project in Nairobi, Kenya, and applying her creative vision to Ella B. Jenkins ceramics, pencils, face masks, clothing, and soon-to-come dolls that children and adults alike will enjoy.

“I created Ella B. Jenkins because there was a need. A need to feel seen and a need to be represented. It’s about empowering the community and people of all ages,” says Eve Lynne, “who are so often ignored and underrepresented.”
